Mooring lines

Mooring and Anchor Lines for Sailboats and Motorboats.

Here we have gathered ropes used for mooring and anchoring sailboats and motorboats. These ropes are made of braided cordage and we also have a page with mooring lines made of twisted cordage, which you can find HERE. Common to these ropes is that they are made of durable polyester to withstand the tough stresses a mooring line can be subjected to. Polyester has excellent resistance to saltwater, moisture, chemicals, abrasion, UV light and strong jerks. These ropes are also braided, giving them good shape stability and making them easy to handle.

Typically, braided ropes have significantly less "stretch/flex" compared to twisted cordage. Historically, twisted cordage has been used for mooring due to the desired stretch to absorb the jerks and pulls that occur when a boat is moored. Nowadays, materials and braiding techniques provide excellent flexibility even for braided lines. These ropes also have the advantage of being easy and smooth to handle and are more or less "kink-free."
