Polypropylene PP
Ropes and Cordage Made from Polypropylene
Polypropylene is a popular material in rope manufacturing due to its properties that are suitable for various industries and applications. PP is highly abrasion-resistant, withstands high temperatures (up to 160°C), floats on water and offers excellent resistance to water, alkalis, acids and chemicals. It also has good dielectric strength. Additionally, polypropylene is an affordable material, making it possible to produce cost-effective ropes for a relatively low price.
Polypropylene ropes have a low density (905kg/m³), which allows them to float in water. This buoyancy makes them ideal for various uses in the fishing industry and maritime sectors. The high wear resistance of polypropylene ropes makes them useful in forestry, climbing ropes, lifelines, towing lines in industry and other applications where the rope must withstand heavy abrasion. Polypropylene ropes also have higher dielectric strength compared to other ropes, making them suitable for use in forestry, electrical work and near power lines.
PP Multifilament is the finest quality of our polypropylene ropes. PP multifilament is made from very fine yarns with a diameter of less than 0.1mm. The silky material makes the rope comfortable to handle and it doesn't have the "plasticky" feel that nylon ropes and simpler PP ropes can have. These ropes come in several colors (black, blue, navy, orange, yellow, green, red, white and yellow/black). Elongation at break is around 25%.
Danline ropes come in light green or brown. Danline fibers resemble PP split film but have higher tensile strength and better UV resistance. Danline is used for applications such as towing lines in industry, hoist lines in construction and in maritime and fishing as net edging. Danline ropes float on water and have less stretch than other PP ropes. Elongation at break is around 20%.
Basic Blue Cordage is our most affordable rope, made from PP split film. Basic Blue Cordage is suitable for bulk users and for simpler applications. The cordage is used for tarpaulins, lashing, towing lines, net edging, container nets and more. The rope has medium UV resistance, with elongation at break around 25%.
Tarline XP is a popular rope made from dark brown Danline fibers blended with olive green polyester multifilament. This blend creates a synthetic cordage that resembles tarred hemp. The polyester multifilament provides the rope with extra durability and UV resistance. Tarline XP is used for rigging on traditional ships and as a mooring line for wooden boats.
Hampex is a 3- and 4-strand ship cordage designed to resemble natural hemp. It is almost impossible to visually distinguish Hampex from real hemp; only upon closer inspection can one notice that Hampex has a slight shine in its fibers. Hampex is a bestseller used for rigging on traditional sailing ships, mooring lines, decorations, furniture production, barriers and stair railings. Elongation at break is around 20%.
Decorline is a fine 3- and 4-strand rope made from polypropylene-like material. Decorline is specifically developed for barriers, enclosures, stair railings and more. The cordage is very pleasant to handle and provides a beautiful decorative appearance. Decorline comes in several colors, all with good colorfastness and UV resistance.
