Polyester

Of the laid ropes, polyester ropes are the most popular and commonly used. Polyester is a very versatile material suitable for rope manufacturing. Polyester ropes are characterized by high tensile strength, low stretch, good UV resistance, abrasion resistance and durability against moisture and chemicals. They come in various colors and types of polyester fibers.

Applications: Ideal for general uses where a rope that is comfortable to handle, has high tensile strength, abrasion resistance, UV resistance and is resistant to moisture, mold and most chemicals is needed. Polyester has a melting point around 260°C.

Polyester ropes have low stretch, making them suitable for most pulling and hoisting applications, winches, towing lines, boat mooring, manure ropes, pulling lines in construction and industry, animal handling, dog leashes, halters, climbing ropes, lifelines and much more. Polyester has good dielectric resistance, making it useful in forestry and cable pulling.

Reinforced Spun Polyester is the polyester rope with the highest tensile strength. The reinforced spun polyester is made from a blend of thermostabilized polyester multifilament (70%) reinforced with spun polyester (30%), giving it high tensile strength and abrasion resistance. Stretch at break is about 25%. This rope is used for many of our pre-spliced mooring lines.

Polyester Multifilament (PES) is the most popular polyester rope, suitable for most purposes. Available in various dimensions, it has high tensile strength and is very comfortable to handle, with minimal kinking. Stretch at break is about 20%.

Spun Polyester consists of shorter fibers spun together into yarns. The yarns have a matte finish that provides higher friction compared to multifilament but slightly lower strength. Spun polyester has good abrasion resistance due to the long yarn. Both Clipper and Hempline are made from 100% spun polyester. Clipper is designed to resemble tarred hemp, while Hempline has a look that mimics natural hemp. Stretch at break is about 25%.
